Biotech Research, Certification Standards For Advanced, Low-Carbon Biofuels To Be Featured At Pacific Rim Summit



WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tuesday, August 12, 2008) - Research scientists and international officials will explore biotechnology's potential to create advanced biofuels that can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy, Sept. 10-12 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The opening plenary session will feature a discussion of how advanced biofuels will reduce climate change emissions. Chris Somerville, director of the Energy Biosciences Institute at the University of California Berkeley, will discuss the institute's program of research into advanced, low-carbon biofuels. Don O'Connor, president of (S&T)² Consultants Inc., will discuss bioenergy activity in Canada.
