NTSB Training Center Classes for March and April
The National Transportation Safety Board is offering several courses during March and April at its training center in Ashburn, Va.
GC101 NTSB Investigations: What Legal Professionals Need to Know
March 5-6
This course will provides legal professionals with foundational knowledge needed to advise clients about the statutory framework that defines NTSB investigations, and the regulations, rules and practices NTSB follows in conducting its investigations. Presentations will also provide key information about what NTSB investigators consider important in critical phases of an investigation, such as investigative hearings and party submissions. This course will also emphasize practical techniques when engaging with NTSB investigators in charge and protecting proprietary information while permitting the NTSB to complete its safety mission. The session will also include a detailed presentation regarding assistance to victims’ families as well as practice tips from outside counsel who routinely represent clients before the NTSB.
Because of the subject matter, registration for this class is limited to attorneys and other individuals that occupy a professional legal position only.

TDA301 Transportation Disaster Response - Family Assistance
March 24-26
Developed for commercial transportation officials, representatives of federal agencies, staff of non-governmental relief organizations and emergency managers, this course is instrumental in understanding how any organization involved in the accident response can most effectively support the family assistance efforts.
NTSB Transportation Disaster Assistance specialists, clinicians and other professionals will present a variety of disaster response and family assistance topics. Learn from Safety Board responders who have developed partnership programs to manage disasters.

AS101 Aircraft Accident Investigation
April 13-24
This course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the procedures and methods used and the skills required to investigate an aircraft accident. Examples from recent NTSB investigations will be used to demonstrate particular aspects of the investigative process.

IM401S Cognitive Interviewing (CI) for Accident Investigators
April 29-30
This course provides the foundational knowledge and skills needed to conduct interviews of participants in, and witnesses to, transportation incidents or accidents. Emphasis will be on the cognitive interviewing technique to maximize the amount and quality of information obtained during investigative interviews. The course will focus on refining the CI techniques and will provide the participant with numerous opportunities to gain confidence using the CI method through interactive discussion, demonstrations and exercises.
