New Zealand Police Equips 6,000 Frontline Officers with Intergraph® Mobile Technology

Smartphones provide officers in the field with mobile access to job-critical information
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - New Zealand Police are deploying smartphones and tablets featuring Intergraph® technology to more than 6,000 frontline officers. In announcing the initiative, Prime Minister John Key said the mobile technologies would help police "access vital information that will help them prevent crime, catch criminals and protect New Zealanders."
Linked to Intergraph's industry-leading computer-aided dispatch software (I/CAD), Intergraph's new Mobile Responder app will help New Zealand field officers use smartphones to access critical information required for more informed decision-making. Based on an initial pilot project, New Zealand Police estimate the mobile technologies will enable officers to spend more time in the field, reduce significant amounts of paperwork and increase productivity by 30 minutes per shift, amounting to 520,000 hours each year or $304.8 million (NZD) in productivity savings over 12 years.
New Zealand Police will also further deploy Intergraph's GeoMedia® Smart Client software. GeoMedia Smart Client integrates data from police communications centers into near real-time interactive maps, displaying information required by officers on and off field. The system stores current and historic event reports and acts as a key planning and decision-making tool. Intergraph developed the GeoMedia Smart Client-enabled solution in collaboration with the Communications Centres Intelligence Unit (CCIU) at Police National Headquarters, Wellington.
