WASHINGTON, D.C., May 6, 2009 - In response to the nomination of Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA) to serve as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Vice President Frank Vargo issued the following statement:
The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) congratulates Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher for her nomination as Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. She is extremely qualified and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the post. The NAM looks forward to working with her on a variety of issues including export control modernization.
Congresswoman Tauscher not only brings experience to the position but also leadership and a fresh perspective to the office that has oversight on export control policy. We are hopeful that with her leadership, our export control policy can be modernized to recognize 21st century threats as well as the realities of today's global economy, and to foster growth and innovation across America's manufacturing sectors. Congresswoman Tauscher recognizes the need to enhance U.S. technological leadership and global competitiveness through a more effective, efficient and transparent export controls system while still ensuring the security of the United States.
The NAM continues to lead the industry effort to modernize the export control system by working with the Congress, the Administration and our industry partners to make the system more predictable, transparent and efficient while still achieving vital security objectives.
