MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer for TD-SCDMA Mobile Terminals


Anritsu Corporation (President Hiromichi Toda) has strengthened the functions of its MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer and announced sales from 13 August of new MT8820B-007/MT8815B-007 TD-SCDMA Measurement Hardware, MX882007C TD-SCDMA Measurement Software, and MX882007C-001 TD-SCDMA Voice Codec options targeted at supporting development of TD-SCDMA 3G mobile terminals used in China.

The MT8820B/MT8815B has basic TD-SCDMA functions built-in, making it the ideal platform for call-processing (connection tests between base station and mobile terminal) and RF Tx/Rx tests (tests related to mobile terminal send and receive performance) of TD-SCDMA mobiles.

Since TD-SCDMA mobile terminals are scheduled to become dual-mode[*1] units, supporting GSM, the MT8820B/MT8815B also incorporates TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode test functions. Moreover, because the MT8820B Parallelphone measurement function supports simultaneous testing of two mobile units, it is the perfect solution for mass-production of TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode mobile phones.

In addition, addition of the Voice Codec option supports End-to-End Communications and audio tests to evaluate voice quality during the mobile terminal development phase.

Note: TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access)

This 3G mobile phone communications technology has been developed independently in China. It combines both Time Division (TDD) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technologies on the same frequency by dynamically adjusting the number of timeslots used for downlink and uplink.

[Development Background]

China is seeing increasing numbers of mobile phone subscribers and is becoming the world's largest market for mobile phones with increasing expectations for widespread adoption of 3G services. In these circumstances, Chinese engineers have developed their own unique TD-SCDMA 3G technology, which is expected to see greatly increased testing in the final run-up year to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In addition, there are high hopes that TD-SCDMA mobiles will become dual-mode terminals by incorporating GSM technology.

Until now, Anritsu has been supplying Chinese mobile makers with the MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer as a manufacturing test set supporting W-CDMA/GSM dual-mode mobile terminals, but these makers have been increasingly in need of test equipment that supports their expanding testing of TD-SCDMA mobiles too. This need is now met by the newly announced MT8820B-007/MT8815B-007 TD-SCDMA Measurement Hardware, MX882007C TD-SCDMA Measurement Software, and MX882007C-001 TD-SCDMA Voice Codec. Moreover various tests, such as call-processing and RF Tx/Rx functions of TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode terminals are supported by installing the MT8820B/MT8815B-001, MT8820B-007/MT8815B-007, MX882007C, and MX82007C-001 in the MT8820B/MT8815B GSM test configuration.

When the MT8820B/MT8815B-001 W-CDMA Measurement Hardware, MT8820B/MT8815B-007 TD-SCDMA Measurement Hardware, and MX882007C TD-SCDMA Measurement Software are installed in the MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer, call-processing and high-speed, high-accuracy RF Tx/Rx tests of TD-SCDMA mobile terminals can be performed easily. In addition, adding the MX882007C-001 TD-SCDMA Voice Codec to the existing MT8820B-011/MT8815B-011 Audio Board supports End-to-End Communications and audio tests.

MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer

The MT8820B/MT8815B is a test instrument targeted at evaluation of mobile terminal technologies used worldwide, including W-CDMA/HSPA, CDMA2000, 1X/1xEV-DO, GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, etc., by installing technology-specific software to perform call-processing, RF Tx/Rx, voice tests of terminals using the all-in-one platform. Using the built-in Parallelphone function allows one MT8820B to measure two mobile terminals simultaneously. The MT8815B is restricted to single phone measurements in a compact, space-saving footprint.
