Making Your Designs Work for Flexible Materials

5 Common Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

GREENSBORO, NC  - CGR Products, nationally recognized manufacturer and supplier of high quality precision components for the industrial OEM market, has put its 50 years of experience handling flexible materials to work developing new ways to help its customers. In order to help the manufacturing process go smoothly, avoid costly errors and lost time, the experts at CGR Products have developed tips to help every project be completed accurately.

The CGR team has come across countless successful designs -- and easily avoided mistakes.  From material choices to projects with tight tolerances, CGR has compiled these tips to help, before a customer sends its next drawing, by developing a free eBook, 5 Common Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them. One of the product development team's most frequent struggles is in flange designs.  Neglected edge clearances result in flexible materials ripping, and thin flange widths or difficult hole placement are all too common -- and all too disappointmenting in the end.

Whether for flanges or other projects, the cutting processes at CGR are extremely precise. These tools can create the holes for nearly any design, but every material -- even with a vast inventory to choose from -- has limitations.  Holes that are too close together, regardless of manufacturing precision or material choice, will still rip in the final product.  The position of bolt holes, especially in a flange, should follow the centerline rule for regulated placement. And, material choice is important as well.  You'll want to consider chemical exposure and particularly physical performance your design needs to handle; the necessary material may demand different clearances.

You'll find more about edge clearances in the free eBook, 5 Common Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them. You'll also find tips on:

  • Tight tolerances and flexible materials

  • Cost-effective selection and engineering materials

  • Materials performance research

  • Packaging design choices

A free copy of the eBook can be downloaded from the CGR Products Resource Library, or the CGR team would be happy to discuss your design questions and concerns.  CGR Products' product development team is always happy to share their insight, and look forward to helping troubleshoot the next project.
