Linde North America's Relationship with Massachusetts Biotechnology Council Expands to Include LifeGas Cryoservices

Council members can now benefit from LifeGas expertise & discounts

Murray Hill and New Providence, New Jersey, U.S., May 3, 2012 - Thanks to a new agreement between Linde Gas North America LLC and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio), the not-for-profit organization's members now have access to Linde's full CryoService Program through its LifeGas division.

LifeGas is the U.S. medical gas business of Linde North America, a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company.

MassBio members can now benefit from Linde's expertise in cryogenic safety training, cryogenic nitrogen supply, cryogenic freezers, system design and installation, on-site support and management, data monitoring and off-site sample storage.

Founded in 1985, MassBio is the nation's oldest biotechnology trade association. It now includes more than 500 member organizations. One of the benefits of membership is the right to participate in its Purchasing Consortium, which provides rebate and discount programs with designated contractors. Linde is already the primary MassBio supplier for bulk gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon, helium, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and medical gases, and as a result the MassBio members save about 25% on those gases.

"We believe - and MassBio agrees - that this new agreement fills a gap in the local biotechnology market segment that was resulting in companies paying too much for cryogenic products and services," said Donald Bongarzone, Cryoscience specialist - Region East, for Linde. "Before this agreement, cryogenic services for Massachusetts-area biotech companies was essentially a 'free for all,' with members purchasing materials, services and supplies anywhere they could find them. So the opportunity was clear for both MassBio and LifeGas."

According to Eric Weisholtz, LifeGas business manager for Region East, "Among leading U.S. counties in biotechnology research employment and concentration, 25 percent are located in Massachusetts. Bottom line, Boston and the surrounding counties are a hotbed for biotech and pharma activity, and this agreement to provide cryoservices to MassBIO is a great opportunity for its members to save money and benefit from our industry leading expertise."

Added Weisholtz, "Don Bongarzone and Chuck Tower, Linde account managers, did an outstanding job in conceiving, presenting and delivering this new offering through MassBio. Because of the agreement, and our superior expertise, customer service and products, I expect significant growth for LifeGas and Linde in the years to come."

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company with around 50,500 employees in more than 100 countries worldwide.
