Press release date: June 2, 2009
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that the next monthly ANSI Caucus Luncheon will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009. The meeting will feature guest speaker Patrick Gallagher, Ph.D., of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
As its deputy director, Dr. Gallagher provides high-level oversight and direction for NIST, a government agency that promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology. He is also carrying out the responsibilities of the director, as that position is currently vacant.
Prior to his appointment as deputy director in 2008, Dr. Gallagher was the director of the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR). This national user facility provides thermal and cold neutron measurement capabilities to the U.S. research community. In 2000, Dr. Gallagher was a NIST agency representative at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). He is an active contributor to the area of U.S. policy for scientific user facilities and was chair of the Interagency Working Group on neutron and light source facilities under the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Dr. Gallagher received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991. His research interests include neutron and X-ray instrumentation and studies of soft condensed matter systems such as liquids, polymers, and gels.
The June Caucus is sponsored by ASTM International, an ANSI member and audited designator.
The Caucus will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, 13th Floor, Lisagor Room) in Washington, DC. RSVPs are requested as soon as possible.
