IREC Webinar to address fire safety code changes.

During IREC Webinar, scheduled for Nov 2 at 2pm EDT, Bill Brooks of Brooks Engineering will describe fire code changes and how PV installations can comply with these new requirements. Both 2012 editions of International Fire Code and NFPA Fire Code will include requirements for photovoltaic installations, which are based on Draft Solar Photovoltaic Installation Guideline issued by California Office of State Fire Marshal. Requirements include set-backs, markings, and DC connector locations.

IREC Webinar on 11/2/10: Fire Safety Code Changes



The next Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) Webinar will be held Tuesday, November 2, at 2pm EDT (1pm CDT, noon MDT, 11am PDT, 10am Alaska, 8am Hawaii) on fire safety code changes. In this seminar, Bill Brooks of Brooks Engineering will describe the code changes and how PV installations can comply with these new code requirements. The seminar will last for 1 hour and 15 minutes. There is no charge for this webinar, but pre-registration is required.

The 2012 edition of the International Fire Code includes a new section with requirements for photovoltaic installations. The 2012 edition of the NFPA Fire Code will also include similar requirements. These requirements are based on the Draft Solar Photovoltaic Installation Guideline issued by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal. The requirements include set-backs, markings, and DC connector locations. The requirements will become a part of the code requirements as states adopt the 2012 editions of the codes.

Bill Brooks of Brooks Engineering has over 22 years of experience designing, installing, and evaluating grid-connected PV systems. More than 5,000 installers and 5,000 inspectors have attended his courses throughout the U.S. and abroad. He has authored several widely used publications including the Expedited Permit Process for PV Systems. Actively involved in the developments of PV codes and standards including the California Fire Guidelines, and the National Electrical Code (NEC) Article 690 (Solar Photovoltaic Systems), Mr. Brooks was appointed to Code Making Panel 4 of the NEC in the fall of 2008. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina and California.
