Interlaken Technology Joins Forces with HEATform™ to Unleash Freedom in Design
Press release date: November 14, 2016
Chaska, Minnesota USA - November 14, 2016 - Interlaken Technology Company, LLC has taken its vast knowledge of Hydroform press design and combined it with the innovative forming techniques developed by HEATform™.
A 500 ton HEATform™ press is nearing completion at ITC’s suburban Minneapolis facility and will soon be producing parts that are no longer constrained by raw material selection or geometric complexity due to material constraints.
“The HEATform™ partnership will enable ITC to bring exclusive advanced forming technology to our customers,” according to Interlaken Technology President, Robb Bass. “This technology allows for greater freedom in designing formed metal parts by removing quite a few of the limitations faced using standard forming processes. Like hydroforming, HEATform™ opens doors where traditional forming processes cannot succeed,” said Bass.
HEATform™ is Hot Metal Gas Forming (HMGF), and the press and forming system components are an analog to traditional fluid hydroforming. Instead of hydraulic pressure, gas pressure is used to form alloys in a heat softened state.
The process of molds being opened and closed by a main press actuator is familiar, but the addition of temperature allows parts to be made using far less force. Economical tools focus on forming parts rather than controlling massive forming pressures. Expansion or forming ratio limits are no longer a significant design constraint. Familiar system subcomponents are integrated in an innovative manner to enable installation without significant plant upgrades or expansion.
Highly accurate control over temperature, pressure and force application enable the HEATform™ process to provide shapes and feature details never imagined in traditional cold metal forming using almost any metal alloy.
HEATform’s™ simple, production proven process is robust and repeatable, providing quality at competitive prices.
