Food Safety Summit Suffers Stomach Virus Outbreak

CHESTERLAND OH — NBC News is reporting that over 100 people have gotten sick from food poisoning at a national Food Safety Summit held last month at the Baltimore Convention Center. Attendees are still reporting in so the actual number affected is likely even higher. Maryland health officials are still searching for the outbreak's cause. Attendees developed symptoms including diarrhea and nausea about 12 hours after eating a meal at the center on April 9th. The conference hosted over a thousand top government and industry food safety leaders including federal agency staffers from the FDA and the CDC. Executive Director of the center Peggy Daidakis commented, "None of us are very happy when we hear these things."

Centerplate, the convention center's food service provider, has been issued a violation notice for condensation dripping from one of their two ice machines in the kitchen, a spokesman said. Baltimore health officials are now investigating the cause.
