Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority Approves Blancco 5 for Erasing Data from Solid State Drives

FICORA's approval paves way for additional international acceptance of Blancco's SSD erasure technology
JOENSUU, Finland –Â Blancco the global leader in data erasure and computer reuse solutions, has announced that the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) has approved Blancco 5Â software for data erasure of magnetic and solid-state hard drives (SSDs). This approval marks the first acceptance of an SSD erasure product by a national authority.

FICORA inspected Blancco 5's technical features, software development process and software development premises and found the product suitable for erasing data from hard drives and SSDs at security classification levels I-IV. Previously, FICORA's guidelines stated that the only reliable means of removing data was physical destruction of the SSD.
"The authorities have had a need for secure SSD erasure for quite some time," said Aki Tauriainen, Head of Audits and Accreditation for FICORA. The approval is valid only when using Blancco 5 software according to FICORA's defined user policy and Hard Drive Life Cycle Management Guidelines.
