Express Grinding Adds Surtronic R-Series Tester for Inspecting High-Throughput Precision Components

Taylor Hobson Roundness Measurement Instrument Combines Accuracy with Versatility and Ease of Use

ELK GROVE, IL— Express Grinding, a leader in high-precision component grinding, has selected the new Surtronic R-Series Roundness and Form Tester from AMETEK Taylor Hobson for its inspection room based on its need to provide high-volume precision components that are ground to some of the industry's tightest tolerances.

Express Grinding has specialized in precision-ground components since 1999. With over 20 precision grinding machines and two full-service quality control labs, Express Grinding has built its reputation on an ability to perform to the industry's highest standards in terms of quality and performance. Its strict quality system ensures 100% conformance and total customer satisfaction. Critical grinding features are randomly inspected and documented throughout the grind process.

With those needs in mind, Express Grinding was highly selective in choosing a new roundness tester for its 12,000-square foot facility. The Surtronic R-Series Roundness and Form Tester from Taylor Hobson satisfied all of its criteria in terms of accuracy, affordability, reliability, robust design, ease of use and adaptability.

The Surtronic R-Series was developed specifically for measuring the high-volume hydraulic components and jet engine and automotive parts that are the mainstays of Express Grinding's business along with a wide range of other precision manufacturing applications in automotive, aerospace, optics and process control.

It uses a proprietary orientation mechanism that allows the operator to easily position a part for measurement in as little as 20 seconds – one third the time required for traditional instruments. Throughput is further enhanced by the fact that there is no need to re-center when measuring a series of similar parts by using the patented centering attachment.

High throughput is achieved with no loss of precision or accuracy. Full ISO compliant measurements can be taken with ±25 nm accuracy and 6 nm gauge resolution. Results are displayed on the robust touch-screen interface using the intuitive X-sight software delivering ease of use with no operator training required.

Crafted of durable materials, the Surtronic R-Series is designed for dependable 24/7 operation in demanding environments. Its modular construction allows easy on-site servicing. A full range of accessories and standards is also available.
