EESCC Opens Inventory Database to the Broader Stakeholder Community

The EESCC Inventory plays a key role in the EESCC’s efforts to assess the energy efficiency standardization landscape and carry out the development of a standardization roadmap for energy efficiency within the built environment. Via three online entry forms housed at www.ansi.org/eescc, the inventory is capturing critical information that the EESCC and its five working groups will consider in developing the standardization roadmap. Specifically, the EESCC is gathering input regarding relevant standards, codes, guidelines, and conformance programs that are available or under development, and what perceived gaps in energy efficiency standardization and conformance activities currently exist.
The EESCC is currently in the early stages of a planned assessment of the energy efficiency standardization landscape. The collaborative will develop a standardization roadmap addressing energy efficiency in the built environment.
The roadmap will identify what standards, codes, and conformance programs are available or under development, what gaps exist, and what additional standardization activities are needed to advance energy efficiency in the United States.
The following EESCC working groups (WGs) have been meeting regularly via web conferences since December 2012:
WG1: Building energy and water assessment and performance standards
WG2: Systems integration and systems communications
WG3: Building energy modeling, rating, and labeling
WG4: Evaluation, measurement, and verification
WG5: Workforce credentialing

While the three online entry forms used to capture this information have been open to the public since the inventory was announced, making the inventory database viewable by all interested stakeholders is expected to increase its effectiveness by allowing for broader contributions while minimizing duplicative entries and making it easier for users to determine whether relevant information has already been submitted from other sources. The decision to open the database was made in response to input received at the EESCC’s inaugural plenary meeting, held January 22-23, 2013 in Arlington, Virginia [see related story].
Obtaining an accurate and complete picture of relevant standards, codes, protocols, and conformance programs – both existing and forthcoming – is an important first step of the EESCC’s work, paving the way to the EESCC’s gap analysis stage.
The EESCC is looking to obtain as much information as possible in the EESCC Inventory Database by Monday, April 1, 2013, in advance of a formal review by the EESCC steering committee later that month.
All stakeholders are encouraged to provide information on relevant documents, conformance programs, and gaps in advance of this date. The EESCC Inventory and its three online entry forms are available on the EESCC website at www.ansi.org/eescc.

Note: the EESCC Inventory is not collecting the standards or documents themselves, but rather relevant information regarding such documents that will assist in the development of the roadmap. No documents will be uploaded.

The ANSI Energy Efficiency Standardization Coordination Collaborative (EESCC) is a cross-sector, neutral forum and focal point for broad-based coordination among energy efficiency activities involving or impacted by standardization (i.e., standards, codes, conformance activities) and regulations.
