Deere & Company Announces Global Citizenship Report

MOLINE, Ill., April 2: Deere & Company has published its 2006 Global Citizenship Report, "Performance That Endures." The report is available on the company's Web site ( www.johndeere.com/ ). It outlines John Deere's approach to governance, ethics and compliance, environmental, health and safety protection, and philanthropy, and is the first time Deere has published this information in a single, comprehensive report. Printed reports can be ordered through the Web site.

Robert W. Lane, chairman and chief executive officer, said the report reflects John Deere's commitment to treating people and the environment with respect. "How we get results is as important as the results we get," he said. "At John Deere, we believe performance that endures is possible, in great part, because our corporate citizenship integrates the interests of shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers, dealers and communities. This is how we grow a great business."

The report documents the company's citizenship performance, such as its aggressive workplace safety goal -- zero injuries -- showing that, at the end of fiscal year 2006, there were 26 John Deere facilities that had each worked more than a million hours without a lost-time injury. The report also outlines how the John Deere Foundation, the company's chief philanthropic arm, has doubled its annual giving over the past three years and anticipates awarding grants and gifts totaling $12 million in 2007. In addition, the report points out that between 1972 and 2006 energy conservation programs reduced Deere's total greenhouse gas emissions by 63 percent per ton of production.

Lane said Deere's approach to citizenship around the world helps the company attract and retain the best talent, gives customers reason to be loyal to the company's products and services, enriches the experience of dealers and suppliers, supports the quality of life in the communities in which employees live and work, helps protect the environment and preserve precious resources, and delivers a valuable return to investors.
