DDL Now Offers Three Different Test Methods for Dye Leak Testing


Minneapolis, MN – http://www.testedandproven.com/  - Two new test methods were recently added to ASTM 1929-12 Standard Test Method for Detecting Seal Leaks in Porous Medical Packaging by Dye Penetration. In an effort to continually meet the requests of our clients, DDL can now conduct all three methods for Dye Leak testing.



In the past, the only option was by injection (Method A) where the dye solution was exposed to the seal from the inside of the package. The revision includes two new test methods that have been developed, edge dip (Method B) and the eyedropper (Method C).



"When the revisions to the standard were announced in early 2013, DDL immediately began educating our staff to in turn educate our customers on the alternative methods introduced for ATSM 1929-12 testing," Jason Simon, Lab Manager at DDL said. "Our lab is now fully equipped to handle all three methods."



The two new methods give manufacturers an opportunity to perform dye leak testing without exposing the product to a significant amount of dye and eliminate the mess that is sometimes encountered when using the 'injection' method. The two new methods evaluate package seals by using dye solutions that are applied from the outside of the package seeking out any channels in seals where capillary action is the force that pulls the solution into the package.
