DataLase Appoints New North American Business Development Manager to Target U.S. Converting Market

(January 03, 2006) - DataLase, originator of the award-winning DataLase® process, announces the appointment of Fred Barnard as Business Development Manager for North America. Fred Barnard joins DataLase to further develop the company's relationship with packaging converters in the U.S.

With 16 years' industry experience, Fred Barnard has managed packaging and converting accounts for a wide range of companies, including several multinational, Fortune 500 corporations. Previously working for MeadWestvaco, Franklin International and Berlin Packaging, Fred most recently headed a 12-state manufacturing and converting region on behalf of Caraustar, a U.S. leader in packaging products. During his work there, Fred won three of Caraustar's six awards for outstanding "Sales Professionalism."

Fred will be responsible for communicating the benefits of the DataLase® process to packaging converters and their end users. This process begins by applying DataLase ink to packaging substrates at either the printing or converting stages. Once exposed to a low power DataLase-approved CO2 laser, pigments in the ink undergo a chemical reaction, turning from white to black.

In particular, Fred will be focusing effort with converters developing the advantages of DataLase® CaseMark(TM) over traditional labeling technologies. With DataLase® CaseMark(TM), the printed data becomes an integral part of the packaging and will not peel or fall off like conventional labels. In contrast to thermal transfer or ink jet printers, DataLase® CaseMark(TM) also reduces maintenance costs by eradicating print head wear. In addition, this new technology does not rely on expensive consumables, such as labels and ink or ribbons. This innovative product, which has applications in date coding, graphics printing and even brand protection, allows converters to pass on considerable cost savings and productivity gains to their customers.

Kevin Murray, Vice President at DataLase comments: "With his extensive experience in the paperboard and packaging industry, we are delighted to have Fred joining us at DataLase. Fred is the perfect individual to discover printers and packaging suppliers who wish to benefit their end user by integrating DataLase technology into their conversion processes."
