Change Is the Key to Better Sales

Gases and Welding magazine provides sales strategy for young professionals.

Dewitt, NY - A textbook definition of insanity is repeatedly doing the same practices and expecting different results. For a salesperson, repeating futile endeavors is not only a waste of time, but a loss of money. To get out of a sales slump, Joe Ellers suggests making some changes. As part of its continued commitment to helping young professionals further their careers in the gases and welding industry, the July issue of GAWDA Edge features an article written by Joe Ellers entitled "A Little Philosophy on Change."

If your company is not getting 100 percent of the business from 100 percent of the accounts in your area, there is always room for improvement. As Ellers explains in the premiere magazine for young professionals in the industry, a major mistake is accepting excuses for poor sales. "When you are told the economy is down, it provides a major justification for accepting lackluster results." Rather than focusing on the things you cannot control, such as the environment, accept responsibility by taking command of those things you can control. "How many things do you have absolutely no influence on? Darn few," says Ellers.

To affect change in your sales, Ellers offers four simple steps: Stop, Start, Do More, Do Better. The first step is to look at those things you are doing that are not producing the results you want. Maybe it is calling on customers who will not buy or quoting sales for business you know you will not win. "These activities take time away from doing things that might actually give you more of what you want," says Ellers. "Stop doing them. Now."
