AWS Recognizes Metglas Senior Scientist, Dr. Anatol Rabinkin

Metglas Senior Scientist, Dr. Anatol Rabinkin, Recognized in AWS Welding Journal

The Welding Journal published by the American Welding Society (AWS) recently recognized the AWS Brazing and Soldering Committee and its members, including a personal acknowledgment of Metglas, Inc. Senior Scientist, Dr. Anatol Rabinkin, for achievement in promoting brazing and soldering engineering programs to United States universities. The AWS Brazing and Soldering Committee, a professional organization working within AWS, consists of prominent representatives from notable American companies involved in brazing and soldering technologies. More than one year ago, the team met to discuss ways to construct a course which would support brazing and soldering educational programs. Up to that point, no such course was given to metallurgical/mechanical engineering students or practical engineers within the United States. It was collectively decided that the course would serve as the fundamental structure of the brazing and soldering educational system, as well as a future highe r level training option for industry engineers currently employed within the field.

The Ohio State University (OSU), because of its exceptional welding engineering degree program, was chosen as a base for introduction of this course to senior and graduate students. Together, the team developed the course program, syllabus, and lectures, which encompassed specific 900 slides, reviews, papers, tests, and other curricula. All lectures were recorded and placed on the OSU web site, thus allowing students to focus in-depth on metallurgical principles and practical application of joining processes.

Metglas Senior Scientist, Dr. Anatol Rabinkin, a well-known industry professional, assisted with the layout of the program and created two of the thirteen course lectures including Brazing Fundamentals and Brazing Filler Metal Classification and Applications. Dr. Rabinkin's lectures featured industrial case studies of Metglas products (primarily Metglas Brazing Foils) as examples of the modern advantages of the art of brazing. Dr. Rabinkin also delivered three course lectures and prepared and graded quizzes on course materials for 35 students and engineers. He was later personally recognized in a letter from OSU Dean of College of Engineering Professor W. Baeslack for his contribution to the program.
