Associated Builders and Contractors Selects Concare for the 2010 Excellence in Construction Award

Two of Concare's projects were selected to receive the highest award.

Melrose Park, IL, December 12, 2010, Concare announced it's been awarded the 2010 Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a National trade association representing merit shop contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and related firms in the United States.

Concare submitted two projects for consideration. The first project had two sections sitting side by side: a raw peanut room and a peanut roasting room. Due to the high risk of transferring bacteria, construction was undertaken to securely separate the two areas. The floors continued to be a contamination risk with old porous floor toppings and inadequate drainage. Concare had the added challenge of equipment that could not be moved allowing for only 2' or less of clearance.

Concare won this award due the company's detailed project management, on-time completion record, and a long history of durability and longevity from similar flooring solutions performed at the facility. The highly detailed project was completed over 4 weekends with multiple shifts of workers to avoid transfer of contaminants and production downtime. The company took precautions to seal off each section where work was being performed and utilized high powered vaccuums in order to contain airborne particles while removing old floor toppings, much of which had to be done manually.

In the second project, the floor was only 15 years old, but the many chips, divots, potholes in the porous floor topping allowed water to collect under the surface; sanitation and drainage in a food processing plant became a major issue.

Concare had the added challenge of working in an active production facility and needed to take extensive measures to seal off the work area. Part of the solution was to erect a temporary 24 foot stud wall from floor to ceiling, and wrapping the large equipment to ensure dust and debris did not make its way into the customer's product. This process took 8 hours to set up and another 4 hours to dismantle, all within a very tight timeframe. The entire project was completed in one weekend working around the clock.

With solid references and extensive preplanning, Concare was selected for this critical project.

"We are very proud of our leadmen, installers and operations manager for their quality workmanship, attention to detail, on-time completion under difficult conditions, and commitment to quality," said Ron Puszynski, president of Concare. "It was a great honor for Concare to receive the award from ABC at the Annual Dinner."
