Arthur Named Vice President and General Manager, Global Corporate Accounts

HARTSVILLE, S.C., December 05, 2007 - Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, today announced that Vicki Arthur has been named division vice president and general manager, Global Corporate Accounts, effective January 1, 2008, according to Charles Sullivan, executive vice president, Global Consumer Packaging and Services Group.
In this new position, Arthur will have overall management responsibility for dedicated account teams that will coordinate all aspects of Sonoco's business relationship with several of its largest global consumer products company customers, including Procter & Gamble, Kraft Foods, Inc. and others. Prior to this appointment, Arthur was division vice president and general manager - Kraft, where she had global account responsibility for Kraft Foods. A replacement for this position will be announced in the near future.
"Over the past two years, Sonoco has been implementing a strategy to build business partnerships with our two largest global consumer product company customers by simplifying our packaging supply chain offerings through a single point of account leadership," said Sullivan. "Because of customer requests to expand this program, we are asking Vicki to develop over the short-term five additional teams that will service our largest global consumer products company customers. Our objective is to jointly work with our customers to provide improved innovation, speed to market, volume growth and increased profitability."
Prior to leading the Company's Kraft Foods account team, Arthur was staff vice president and Treasurer of the Company. Arthur joined Sonoco in 1984 and had held various positions in financial reporting, treasury and accounting. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS degree in Accounting and holds an MBA in Business from Duke University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
