ANSI to Host Free Webinar on International Guide for Consumer Product Information

ISO/IEC Guide 14 Currently Under Revision

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will host a free webinar on ISO/IEC Guide 14, Purchase information on goods and services intended for consumers, an international guideline that is currently under revision. The 60-minute webinar will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at 1 pm Eastern.

Guide 14 is published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and is being revised by the ISO Committee on Consumer Policy (COPOLCO), Working Group (WG) 15. ANSI is the U.S. member body to ISO and, via the U.S. National Committee, to IEC.

Michele Althoff, who serves as convenor of COPOLCO WG 15, will speak about the revisions to ISO/IEC Guide 14, including how the document has evolved to better address accessibility needs, the role of the internet in purchasing decision, and the evolution of technologies that support product information. Ms. Althoff is project quality manager at Alstom Power.

ISO/IEC Guide 14 provides general principles intended to make it easier for consumers to effectively compare products or services prior to purchase. This includes general rules for the creation of purchase implementation systems and related purchase information bodies. The guide is primarily intended for those involved in the preparation and revision of voluntary consensus standards for consumer products and services, including committees preparing consumer product and service standards, technical writers, product designers, manufacturers, and members of purchase information bodies, among others. Revisions to ISO/IEC Guide 14 would update the current edition, which was published in 2003.
