Alloy Metals and Tubes International Acquired by Houston Executive Curtis R. Kates

An Industry Bright Spot in a World of Economic Uncertainty

HOUSTON (November 18, 2008) - Houston-based Alloy Metals and Tubes International Inc. (AMTI) has been acquired by local oil and petrochemical executive Curtis R. Kates. Founded in 1991, privately-owned AMTI specializes in the sale and deployment of specialty, high-alloy instrumentation tubing to the oil and gas industry.

"We immediately expanded our sales team upon acquiring the business," says CEO Kates. "Even in the current atmosphere of economic uncertainty, we're focused on strengthening existing AMTI relationships, as well as building strategic alliances with new customers and suppliers. I see tremendous potential for growth, particularly in the nickel and high-nickel chrome alloy market niche."

AMTI provides service for customers requiring custom tubes, particularly in the oil and gas sector, and also maintains a strong inventory of instrumentation tubes in its West Houston location. The company specializes in difficult sourcing and transportation requirements and provides one-stop shopping for a complete list of hard to source tubing products.

"In addition to serving our domestic customers, we are experienced in providing high nickel products to international markets as well," says Kates, "particularly in Asia."

Curtis R. Kates has more than 30 years experience in refining and petrochemical businesses in the Houston area. During the past 28 years he participated in growing three companies owned by a private holding company, CreekSide Industries. Mr. Kates retains an equity interest in the holding company. Specific business experience is in specialty chemical sales and manufacturing, and fuel blending, with more than 15 years of experience at the manufacturing sites.

Mr. Kates earned his MBA with a concentration in finance from LSU in 1978, and began his career in Houston with Conoco. A decision to make Houston his permanent home lead him to join the predecessor to CreekSide Industries in 1980. Kates served various positions in three companies under the CreekSide umbrella, and was Executive VP of Advanced Aromatics with responsibility for Sales, Feedstock supply, Business Development and R&D. Skilled in developing the corporate vision, strategic planning and business development, Kates is the former Executive Vice President of specialty chemical manufacturer Advanced Aromatics L.P. and former officer of the Petrochemical Committee of the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA). In addition to being a graduate of Louisiana State University. Kates holds a Certificate in Leadership Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management and a BS and MBA from LSU.
