A Safer Warehouse Begins with Demonstrated Performance®

Crown's DP LeadSafe(TM) Lift Truck Safety Program Targets Supervisors

New Bremen, Ohio, September 2008 - Feedback paired with training produces a safer lift truck operator. According to a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health study, those operators who received regular feedback in addition to traditional training made substantially fewer mistakes than those who received formal training only.

Crown Equipment Corporation, a leading global lift truck manufacturer, is also known for developing award-winning training programs. The company's latest training program, DP LeadSafe(TM), teaches supervisors how to recognize proper and improper lift truck operation and how to use that information to provide appropriate feedback to their operators.

"LeadSafe targets supervisors because operators spend the most time working with them," said Manager - Operator Training Ron Brewer. "Often, formal operator training is provided by a trainer in just one day. While that training may provide a foundation, ongoing feedback and reinforcement must be present for the operator to retain safe work habits.

"Supervisors spend a significant amount of time with their operators. It made sense for Crown to develop a program that teaches supervisors what to look for in safe operator performance, which ultimately helps them be better leaders."

Feedback on the program has been positive. The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) has honored DP LeadSafe in its 2008 Awards of Excellence program with an Outstanding Human Performance Intervention Award. The award recognizes outstanding results derived from the successful application of human performance technology to human performance problems, needs or opportunities.

Crown developed LeadSafe based on Demonstrated Performance®, which requires participants to follow specific curriculum and demonstrate their ability to a trainer in order to proceed to the next module.

LeadSafe training modules teach supervisors how to observe and track safe lift truck operation, evaluate a warehouse, identify relevant OSHA regulations and provide appropriate feedback to operators.

The LeadSafe program is available through Crown's dealer network.
