A-Laser Announces Speakers for MID Tech Day


MILPITAS, CA — A-Laser is pleased to announce the panel of technical speakers who will be presenting on Laser Direct Structuring (LDS) and Molded Interconnect Devices (MIDs) during the FREE technical event on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at its facility in Milpitas, CA. The following industry experts from A-Laser and its partners will be on site to discuss the endless possibilities of MIDs:



Aaron Johnson

Vice President of Marketing Customer Strategy

Session Topic: Injection Molding



Background: Aaron Johnson started working for Accumold in 2005. Accumold is a high-tech manufacturer of precision micro, small and lead frame injection molded plastic components. The company designs, builds and produces unique molds and parts efficiently for markets that include micro electronics, automotive, fiber optics, medical, and military applications.



Chuck Alexander

Director of Product Management

Session Topic: 3D Printing



Background: Chuck Alexander joined 3D Systems as an Application Engineer in 1989 and quickly advanced to become the Product Manager for the company’s latest Stereolithography system. In 1994 Mr. Alexander began work at Solid Concepts and spent 18 years as the PL manager of the Additive Manufacturing department. He recently returned to Stratasys Direct Manufacturing as Director of Product Management.



Taylor Smith

Session Topic: Laser Activation & Design Rules



Background: Taylor Smith started working for LPKF back in 2011 as a Laser Plastic Welding Technician where he gained a vast amount of experience working with lasers. He is now an application engineer and specializes in Laser Direct Structuring. Smith is faced with the demanding task of developing process solutions for the printed circuit board and microelectronics industries.

Background: Tom Scimeca has more than 30 years of experience in PCB plating. As a founder of multiple chemical manufacturing facilities for servicing electronics assembly, he has been at the forefront of every technology in the industry. Scimeca’s experience and willingness to continue innovating and adapting his business every year is what makes him an invaluable asset to the growth of the industry.



George Surjan

Mechanical Engineer

Session Topic: Applications, Future Developments & Conclusion



Background: George Surjan began his career in the medical industry, designing pharmaceutical packaging for Systex Bioscience. He has a broad range of industry experience, from designing and engineering medical devices and equipment, to LPT gas trucks and other gas distribution products with CAD applications for the propane and natural gas industry. Surjan holds a Master’s degree in Network Engineering and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) at San Jose State University. He holds numerous certifications including MCSE, NOVEL, CISCO, MCNA and MCP.
