Lewes, Delaware project manager honored by House of Representatives
FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. - August 20, 2009 - Severn Trent Services announces Walter Baumer, project manager of the company's public-private partnership with the Town of Lewes, Delaware, was named 2008 Wastewater Operator of the Year by the Delaware House of Representatives. Overseeing daily operation of the seaside Town's 1.5-million-gallons-per-day Howard Seymour Water Reclamation Facility, Baumer has managed the Town's wastewater system since the inception of the partnership in 2002.
The award was bestowed upon Baumer during the Operator of the Year Awards ceremony held at the Delaware Technical and Community College this May. The annual award is presented to water, wastewater and on-site operators who have demonstrated outstanding technical excellence and an exemplary work ethic, contributing to the high level of water quality in Delaware. Baumer was one of four nominated operators eligible to receive the award.
In 2005, the Town of Lewes began construction of a new facility incorporating membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology. Working with Severn Trent, the Howard H. Seymour Water Reclamation Plant was completed at approximately half the cost of the original concept that would have required spray irrigation of the effluent. The new MBR facility, dedicated in April 2008, is the first of its kind in Delaware.
"Walt was given a re-built facility with state-of-the-art processes and immediately brought it into compliance," noted Severn Trent Services area manager Dave Fink. "Walt's hard work and dedication is worthy of this prestigious honor."
