Hastings, Michigan, USA - Viking Corporation, a global leader in fire protection and life safety systems, has received a UL Listing for its VK502 dry Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) pendent sprinkler. The UL Listing is in addition to the product's existing FM Approval. This latest Listing makes the VK502 the industry's only UL Listed and FM Approved dry ESFR pendent sprinkler. The new model VK502 will replace the existing VK501 with UL Listing only, consolidating Viking's Dry ESFR sprinkler line into one UL/FM product (model VK502).
The patent-pending VK502 sprinkler, which is cULus Listed and FM Approved for use in wet pipe systems only, is well-suited for cold storage facilities where the system piping is installed in a heated space above the freezer area. In these applications, the VK502 sprinkler can significantly reduce the installed cost of a fire sprinkler system by providing ceiling only protection, without the additional costs associated with a dry or preaction system, including an in-rack sprinkler system, detection system, air maintenance system, low point drains, and other components.
In addition to dramatically reducing installed costs, a wet pipe system using Viking's dry ESFR sprinklers are significantly easier to service and maintain, thus lowering the system's total lifecycle costs for the end user. The dry ESFR sprinkler, which has a 14.0 (201) K factor, is Listed and Approved to protect the same commodities and storage arrangements as a standard K14 ESFR pendent sprinkler.
