Press release date: June 30, 2010
The unprecedented increase in peak laser powers in recent years has led to exciting new fields of research, driving the demand for solid- state lasers operating at the Petawatt power level and beyond. Many of these laser facilities will utilize the unique lasing characteristics of titanium doped sapphire, (Ti:sapphire), as the laser gain material. These laser facilities will be pushing the conventional limits of many different technologies including pump lasers, gratings, and large, high quality of Ti:sapphire laser crystals. To support the high power laser community, Crystal Systems, Inc. (CSI) has undertaken an intense development program to increase the size of Ti:sapphire boules to over 200 mm while improving the crystalline quality and overall utility of these crystals for multi-pass amplification.
