Technetics Group has geared up its Fire Seal production resource to meet growing demand for its design-to-validation capability. A global provider of engineered sealing and material solutions for critical applications, Technetics Group uses modular moulding units which potentially allow limitless sizes of the elastomer Fire Seals to be produced.
Investments, including the appointment of additional technical personnel, new CAD equipment and moulding units have helped Technetics Group to reduce its turn round time and to enhance its design, build, test and validation process. In addition an increase in production capacity is allowing Technetics Group to further develop its long term strategic supply partnerships for volume Fire Seal requirements.
Manufactured to meet the requirements of aircraft industry standards such as AC20-135 and ISO 2685, the Fire Seals are required to support resistance to flame penetration at 1100°C for 15 minutes, as part of a finished assembly, and are commonly used in engine and APUs (Auxillary Power Unit). Using elastomer material with a combination of ceramic and glass fabric, the seals can be formed into 3D shapes as required.
Steve Hill, Market Manager, Aerospace - UK, explains, "Our understanding of capabilities of Fire Seals and the material's design limitations have been developed over 50 years working within the Aerospace industry. Technetics Group's resources and capabilities, to support the product, extend globally with a validation laboratory in Daytona, USA, and its research laboratory in Pierrelatte, France.
"Product development of Fire Seals is ongoing and we are now able to incorporate bellows into seals for applications requiring flexibility or independent movement. The custom made nature of Fire Seals renders every application unique but our ability to take products in the shortest possible time through design, build, test and the validation process puts Technetics Group into a strong supply position within the market."
