Dr. Stefan Winkler to Speak on Quality of Experience (QoE) - An Important Measure of Success for IP-Based Video Services

SAN JOSE, Calif. - January 7, 2008 - Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM), today announced that Dr. Stefan Winkler, principal technologist for Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division, is speaking at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE)'s Conference on Emerging Technologies® (ET) in Los Angeles. Taking place on January 14-16, 2008, SCTE's ET Conference brings together cable and telecommunication industry leaders to discuss important issues impacting the future of the industry.

Dr. Winkler is speaking on a panel entitled, "Rapid Application Delivery and Service Quality Management" which is composed of executives from Cable Labs, Time Warner Cable and others who will tackle some of the important challenges the industry faces. The panel will discuss subscriber policy management, on-boarding of new applications, measuring and managing quality of experience (QoE), and how standards and new architectures will address these needs in the coming years. Dr. Winkler will specifically address the importance of QoE as a critical measure of success for IP-based video services.

One of the world's top experts in digital media quality, Dr. Winkler serves as a principal technologist at Symmetricom. He was formerly chief scientist and co-founder of Genista Corporation, a provider of quality assurance solutions for IPTV and mobile media. He has also held assistant professor positions at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and has worked for Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, German Aerospace and Andersen Consulting. Dr. Winkler has published more than 40 papers on perceptual quality measurement and is the author of the book, "Digital Video Quality." He has also been a member and contributor of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) since its founding in 1997. Dr. Winkler holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology in Vienna, Austria and a doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.
