Stimulus Money Revives Performance Contracts and Creates 10 Jobs per $1M

The first concrete effects of the $787 billion federal stimulus package are being seen with shovel-ready projects that are playing a big role in the federal stimulus package. The question was how these projects could be used in conjunction with performance contracts. I-Con Systems, Inc., the leader in water conservation for jails and prisons, has worked with the Department of Corrections and local Sheriff's office in several states to introduce shovel ready projects to the proper channels, including the State's Department of Energy office, to help revive and enhance performance contracts that had higher payback than desired for the overall contract.

The ability to utilize this stimulus package to help the performance contract's process to create and sustain jobs in the State's local economy is a key factor to the DOC and Sheriff's offices. The agencies picked projects that were ready-to-go and that could be expected to create about 10 jobs in the local economy for every $1 million spent. In addition to the 10 jobs created, numerous other jobs are supported or created across the country from the manufacturers of the new equipment being installed to the trucking companies delivering the goods. All in all, it's a win for everyone.

I-CON's business is about quality products, conservation, and innovation. I-CON has completed over 100 projects in over 35 states with recent major projects including, Phase I & II for the State of Indiana, Phase I & II for the State of Virginia with Phase III completing in 2009, Phase I & II for the State of Florida with Phase III starting in 2009, Phase I for the State of Utah, Phase I for the State of NV, multiple State and County facilities in the State of CA with thousands of I-CON valves installed at San Quentin, Chino, Santa Rita, and others. In fact, the I-CON products in San Quentin and Chino were funded by the local water company and a grant so the State of CA did not have to fund one dime of the project. I-CON's typical water and sewer savings range from 65%-75% and have gone as high as 80%, as demonstrated by the study done by a third party at SCI Rockview, PA.

I-CON is working on additional innovative products that will work for other facilities, including educational, healthcare and more.
