Siemens Strengthens Its Range of Solutions for Wastewater Treatment with the Takeover of the Italian Company, Sernagiotto Technologies

Warrendale, Pa., July 14, 2006 -- The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group, a leading global provider in water and wastewater treatment, has strengthened its position in the biosolids treatment and dewatering equipment market with the takeover of the Italian company Sernagiotto Technologies S.p.A, located in Casteggio near Milan. As Roger Radke, head of the I&S Water Technologies (WT) Division commented, "With Sernagiotto's products and technologies for sludge drying and dewatering, we have rounded off our portfolio to cover the whole process chain in wastewater treatment. At the same time we have gained a new production and service location for our customers in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East."

As a license-holder, Siemens WT has already been successful in selling Sernagiotto's dewatering and drying technologies on the North American market via its Group Company USFilter. With the takeover, Siemens WT is now in a position to establish a footprint in currently unserved regional biosolids markets - in particular in Europe, North Africa and the countries of the Middle East: "In addition, our strategy is based on using Sernagiotto as a European regional manufacturing platform for products of various WT business units like biological treatment and clarification, purified water, and engineered products and systems"; said Radke. At the same time Sernagiotto will become a center of expertise for the transfer of biosolids technology within Siemens Water Technologies.

The environmental technology company Sernagiotto has been in the market since 1974: It has a strong process engineering capability which is utilized for comprehensive solutions such as sludge dryers and belt presses. The company will operate under the name of Siemens Water Technologies, S.p.A. at its current location under the operational management of the I&S Water Technologies Division and will be integrated into Siemens Italy.
