Shelby Township Michigan-based Involve Test & control Inc. (ITC) to Build Leak Test Systems for A123 Battery Asssemblies in US and China

Press release date: August 7, 2014

Involve, Test & Control Inc. (ITC), a Shelby Township Michigan-based designer and builder of leak test systems recently introduced a "Tryout Program" for their VICATS-LTS leak test unit that ultimately won them the opportunity to provide leak test systems for battery systems maker A123 both here in the U.S. and in China.

Al Pike, vice president and general manger of ITC explains. "In a lot of industries, getting a potential customer to take a look at a new piece of leak testing equipment is difficult. Leak testing is really a science, with different leak testing methods, and once a customer gets comfortable with a supplier it is hard to get-your-foot-in-the-door. Our solution to that situation was to develop a leak test tryout program for one of our standard products and let the customer put it right to work in their plant and experience the results first hand…at no initial cost to the customer. We built six of our VICATS-LTS units and have _____ of them in the field leak testing a variety of cast iron, steel and plastic components."

Pike adds, "We had previously designed and built leak test systems for automotive battery trays, assemblies and covers so we targeted A123 as a high potential user for our equipment. They were amenable to having us set up our system in their Livonia, Michigan plant and it proved itself. The unit is currently being shipped to China for testing in plants there as well.

The ITC VICATS-LTS, Visual Control and Test System is a cost-effective leak test system that provides fast cycle times with high repeatability and accuracy. Integrated fixture control eliminates the need for a PLC and HMI. It has multi-part flexibility for use with several fixtures and can easily integrate with a PLC for larger more complex applications. It can be applied for electable mass flow or pressure decay methods as well as the ability to provide flow testing.

Involve Test and Control (ITC) was founded in 1944 and specializes in stand-alone test instrumentation, systems, and machines. In leak test applications, ITC systems can utilize mass flow, laminar flow, pressure decay, and other measurement methods. Integrated systems interface easily with various types of LVDT, LASER, and infrared sensing and measurement devices providing "virtual condition" quality assurance to part testing.
