Press release date: August 11, 2009
Custom manufactured low order waveplates made from laser-grade single crystal sapphire for extending IR polarization control into the 3 to 5 µm wavelengths are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, RI.
Meller Sapphire Waveplates feature Moh 9 hardness which is second only to diamond and can be made in sizes as thin as 0.4 mm and <25 mm dia. with transmitted wavefront of λ/10 @632.8 nm. Highly resistant to scratching, chemicals, fluctuating temperatures and shock, these waveplates change the polarization state of a laser beam from linear to circular and vise versa.
Featuring 10-5 scratch-dig surface quality and ≤1.0 arc/sec. parallelism, Meller Sapphire Waveplates provide λ/4 and λ/2 retardation with tolerances of >λ/300 @632 µm, >λ/400 @1.06 µm and >λ/1000 @2.94 µm. Offered in custom sizes from 10 to 30 mm in either "A" or "M" plane configurations, they are A/R coated on both sides and ideal for high power IR and visible lasers.
Meller Sapphire Waveplates are priced from $350.00 ea., depending upon size and quantity. Literature and quotations are available upon request.
