April 16, 2008 - Celebrating its 29th year, EASTEC 2008 Advanced Productivity Exposition will take place May 20-22 at the Eastern States Exposition Grounds in West Springfield, MA. Its 2,000 products, including 120 new products, from 600 industry-leading companies will be in 5 technology-focused buildings. A variety of resource centers, as well as the Associated Industries of Massachusetts Plant Manager Roundtable, will take place at the event.

The East Coast's Largest Annual Manufacturing Event Celebrates 29th Year

DEARBORN, Mich., April 15, 2008 - East Coast manufacturers are gearing up for EASTEC 2008 Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX). Produced by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the East Coast's largest annual manufacturing event, will take place May 20-22 at the Eastern States Exposition Grounds in West Springfield, Mass. EASTEC is expected to attract more than 14,000 decision makers representing aerospace, defense, medical, consumer products and other manufacturing industries.

Celebrating its 29th year, EASTEC supports the region's numerous small-machine shops - OEMs, suppliers and high-tech manufacturing firms - located throughout New England. The exposition provides manufacturers with access to advancements in lean manufacturing, metalworking, plastics, and advanced materials to help them better serve their customers in the production of jet engines, aerospace, and medical components, military equipment, and other high-value products.

"Manufacturing remains a vital segment of the economy in the northeast region," said Mark C. Tomlinson, executive director and general manager, Society of Manufacturing Engineers. EASTEC's 2,000 products (including 120 new products) from 600 industry-leading companies are in five technology-focused buildings making it easier for attendees to find specific technologies and companies:

Buildings 1 & 2 - Precision Manufacturing Equipment & Systems Buildings 3 & 4 - Automation, Supply Chain & Process Improvement Buildings 3 & 4 - Plant, Energy & Environmental Efficiency Building 5 - Design, Engineering & Rapid Technologies Building 5 - Tooling, Workholding & Machining Accessories

Additional features at EASTEC 2008 include FREE sessions and resource centers:

Machining-Tooling-Materials Resource Center (May 20-22 - Building 5) - Sponsored by National Center for Defense Manufacturing & Machining, sessions will cover programming, tool coatings, machine tools, workholding, inspection and other technologies.

Lean & Green Resource Center (May 20-22 - Building 5) - Sponsored by Greater Boston Manufacturing Partnership and Manufacturing Engineering magazine, participants can learn how to successfully incorporate lean and green into their companies.

Medical Manufacturing Resource Center (Tuesday, May 20 - Building 5) - Sponsored by the Regional Technology Corporation, topics will include FDA expertise and other regulations for exporting, telemedicine, smart devices, sourcing, drug delivery systems and nano implantables and regulations.

Alternative Energy Technologies Resource Center (Wednesday, May 21 - Building 5) - Sponsored by Regional Technology Corporation, the RTC will discuss photovoltaics / solar power, wind energy, fuel cells and biofuels and how to support the manufacturing supply chain.

Associated Industries of Massachusetts Plant Manager Roundtable (Wednesday, May 21 - 8:30 a.m. Storrowton Tavern) - EASTEC hosts the May meeting of AIM which provides a keynote speaker and discussion. All Massachusetts plant managers are welcome to attend.

Business Improvement Resource Center (Thursday, May 22 - Building 5) - Sessions include Managing Maintenance as a Business, Why Some Employees Do Not Perform Their Jobs Correctly, and Lean Sales Process Meets Manufacturing.

SME Careers in Technology Student Program (Thursday, May 22) - SME Pioneer Valley Chapter 32, Regional Employment Board of Hampden County, Haas Automation, Solidworks Corporation and the SME Education Foundation invite educators and students to the SME Careers in Technology Student Program where they will have the opportunity to observe advanced manufacturing technologies and to discuss career opportunities in technology and manufacturing.
