January 18, 2013 - SME Education Foundation announced its 2013 Board of Directors as well as collective commitment of industry partners and donors to STEM education. New members – Laser FANUC FA America product manager Elizabeth Kautzmann and Wheeling High School EdD and principal Lazaro J. Lopez – will serve 2-year terms starting January 1, 2013. Announcement also names those who will fill positions of President, Vice President/Secretary, Treasurer/Chair of Finance, Assistant Treasurer, and Directors.

The SME Education Foundation announces its 2013 Board of Directors and the collective commitment of its industry partners and donors to STEM education.

DEARBORN, Mich.–The SME Education Foundation (SME-EF) announces its 2013 Board of Directors and the collective commitment of its industry partners and donors to STEM education. Joining the board are two new members, Elizabeth Kautzmann, product manager, Laser FANUC FA America, Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Lazaro J. Lopez, EdD, principal, Wheeling High School, Wheeling, Ill. They were approved at the SME-EF fall meeting of its Board of Directors held in Torrance, Calif. and will serve two-year terms effective January 1, 2013.

“We are fortunate to have a board representing major facets of business, industry and academia, their domestic and international acumen and collective commitment to STEM education,” says Bart A. Aslin, CEO, SME Education Foundation. “The mantra of STEM is global and as important in Europe, China, Brazil, and other countries around the world, as it is in the U.S., even more so. Maintaining our competitive position and supporting STEM-based manufacturing education is an imperative.”

SME Education Foundation funding is directed to STEM-based manufacturing education programs including the Gateway Academy administered by Project Lead The Way, robotic competitions, and scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in manufacturing engineering.

In 2013, the Foundation will fund the third phase of a new community-based program, PRIME (Partnership Response in Manufacturing Education), which is designed to create strong partnerships between schools, organizations, and businesses. Its primary purpose is to transform manufacturing education and measurably change public perception of manufacturing as a career.
