ACCOMMODATE HEAVY RADIAL LOADS AND MISALIGNMENT

SKF CARB® toroidal roller bearings serve ideally as non-locating bearings in large electric motors (125 Hp and above) with their capability to accommodate very heavy radial loads and compensate for misalignment from overhung loading and to perform well under lower radial loads. Their suitability for both coupled and belted loads provides users with a single bearing solution for motors, regardless of mounting method, and can help reduce motor inventory needs. These self-aligning roller bearings combine design features from several conventional bearing types to promote optimized performance, reliability, and longer service life. CARB bearings can adjust for axial expansion of the shaft internally (similar to a cylindrical roller bearing) and can accommodate misalignment (similar to a spherical roller bearing). Long self-guiding rollers (similar to needle roller bearings) maximize load capacity.

A special design of the rollers further allows CARB bearings to reduce the potential for skidding on the raceways (and resulting high temperatures, shortened lubricant life, and potential failure) to broaden their applications to coupled motors with relatively light loads. Other user benefits from CARB bearings include improved lubrication conditions, extended relubrication intervals, and improved grease life. Minimal maintenance is required. CARB bearings are offered in a wide range of sizes and are available with seals and optional cages. Custom designs can be developed.
