SGS Utilizes Rohde & Schwarz Equipment to Enhance Its Testing Capabilities for LTE-Advanced, VoLTE, and LBS Devices

Press release date: February 26, 2014

The R&S TS8980FTA-2 and R&S CMW500 platforms from Rohde & Schwarz has increased the overall test capabilities for SGS, providing more capabilities to its growing list of customers.

Columbia, MD — SGS, the world leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, has selected the Rohde & Schwarz R&S TS8980FTA-2 and R&S CMW500 wireless test platforms for industry conformance and carrier acceptance testing supporting key technologies including:
• LTE FDD and TDD Release 8, 9 and 10
• carrier aggregation
• VoLTE/IMS, RCS
• A-GNSS, OTDOA
• eCID
• E911 over IMS

Wireless carriers and mobile device manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to differentiate themselves in today's highly competitive market. With data traffic on the rise, more applications running over IP and an increase in services requiring geo-localization, utilizing spectrum efficiently is more important than ever. New technologies and features around carrier aggregation, voice over LTE (VoLTE) and location based services (LBS) are poised to make a significant impact in the near future. But even as these advances in wireless technology are adopted, the legacy 2G & 3G technologies of the past must still be supported and tested. This expanded scope of testing requires equipment that can support legacy, current and next generation conformance and carrier acceptance requirements.

"As LTE Release 8, 9 & 10 become mainstream technologies, SGS is adding support for test requirements covering the next wave of mobile wireless devices that will take communications and connectivity to a whole new level," says Michael Spitzer, US Wireless Director of SGS. "At SGS, we are committed to providing state-of-the-art testing capabilities for all our customers to help them get their products to market faster and with higher quality. We are pleased to work with companies such as Rohde & Schwarz to help us get there."
