RIA'S Cleaning & Restoration Magazine Wins Four Awards for Editorial Excellence

COLUMBIA, MD. - Cleaning & Restoration (C&R) magazine, the monthly technical journal for The Restoration Industry Association (RIA, formerly the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration), recently received four awards for editorial and overall magazine excellence in competitions sponsored by the Missouri School of Journalism and Communications Concepts. Both competitions are geared towards specialty and corporate communications publications and programs.

An article detailing the restoration of the Notorial Archives in New Orleans was the recipient of a Magnum Opus Silver Award for Best Feature Article from the Missouri School of Journalism, as well as an Apex Award from Communications Concepts. The November 2006 issue of C&R, which celebrated RIA's 60th Anniversary, also received a Magnum Opus Special Recognition Grand Print Award, one of only two presented in the competition. The judges said, "This is a great example of how an association can use its custom publication to market itself to its own members. The submitted issue focuses on the history of the association and the value of membership, both informing and challenging readers."

The September 2006 issue of the magazine focusing on marketing and public relations won a Magnum Opus Honorable Mention Award for Best Overall Editorial.

For the Magnum Opus Awards, the publication was judged against corporate giants such as the Walt Disney Company, Rodale Press, American Airlines, Aetna Customized Communications Group, Toyota Motor Sales and the Public Relations Society of America. The Apex Awards competition encompassed approximately 5,000 entries from organizations across the country..

"This publication is a team effort and we're very pleased to have our efforts validated by our peers," said C&R's Editor-in-Chief, Patricia Harman. "As an association publication for the industry, we have worked hard to keep our readers on the cutting-edge of critical issues, while providing practical information they can use in their daily businesses."
