People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), an accredited standards developer and member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named C. Samuel Kerns as AF&PA's new vice president - administration and chief financial officer. Mr. Kerns will have responsibility for the association's financial, human resources, facilities, and information systems.

Mr. Kerns previously served for 11 years as vice president, finance and administration, for the American Public Transportation Association, an international trade association dedicated to strengthening public transportation. He was also vice president for finance, treasurer, and chief financial officer for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a non-profit international and domestic policy research think tank.

Earlier in his career he was corporate controller for Hagler Bailly, an international management consulting firm. A certified public accountant, Mr. Kerns holds a bachelor of arts in business administration from McDaniel College.

AF&PA represents the interests of U.S. pulp, paper, packaging, and wood products manufacturers, as well as forest landowners. Accounting for approximately 5 percent of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP, the forest products industry produces about $175 billion in products annually and employs nearly 900,000 people.
