The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), an organizational member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Chris Hankin as director of energy efficiency. In his new role, Mr. Hankin will spearhead the trade association's policy efforts in addressing the growing global challenges related to the environment and sustainability in the high-tech industry.

Mr. Hankin brings over 30 years of public policy experience to ITI, most recently serving as senior director of U.S. affairs for Sun Microsystems in Washington, D.C. He acted as the corporate lead for all public policy issues involving the federal government, and led Sun's eco-responsibility branding efforts and outreach. During Mr. Hankin's tenure, Sun became the first corporate recipient of U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer's Conservation Champion Award, which recognizes individuals and organizations working to promote a safe and healthy environment.

Previously, Mr. Hankin was the director of government affairs for NCR Corporation. He also held various senior-level government positions, including professional staff to the International Relations Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives; senior advisor for international trade controls and deputy assistant Secretary of State at the U.S. Department of State; and associate deputy undersecretary for trade and director of legislative affairs for the U.S. Department of Labor.

ITI is an advocacy organization for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. ITI is dedicated to engaging on behalf of all of its member companies, which represent all areas of ICT including hardware, services, and software, in the areas of environment and sustainability, global policy, and government relations.
