Intensive programs educate engineers and researchers on methodologies and available tools for conducting Real-Time Simulation, HIL testing and Rapid Control Prototyping

MONTREAL, Oct. 12 - Opal-RT Technologies (www.opal-rt.com), the leading developer of open Real-Time Simulators and HIL testing systems for electrical, mechanical and fast-switching power electronic systems, today announced the opening of the Opal-RT Training Academy. The Academy will provide training programs designed to introduce participants to the methodologies and software & hardware tools used in the Real-Time Simulation and HIL testing of critical systems used in a wide variety of industries.

"Real-Time Simulation technologies and methodologies are rapidly advancing. As a result, it is critical for engineers and researchers to keep pace to ensure that Real-Time Simulation remains a key element in the development and testing of today's complex electrical and power electronic systems," said Jean Belanger, President and Co-founder of Opal-RT Technologies Inc. "The Opal-RT Training Academy will provide both existing engineers and researchers with a strong background in simulation, as well as engineering students who are discovering simulation for the first time, with the technical and methodological skills required to effectively leverage simulation tools in their labs and in the field."

The Opal-RT Training Academy will welcome students to its first two-week program, starting in mid-October 2010 at Opal-RT headquarters in Montreal. The training program, conducted over 10 days, will focus on introducing participants to the fundamentals of Real-Time Simulation, including the popular Simulink modeling environment from MathWorks and Opal-RT's RT-LAB Real-Time Simulation platform.

The program will challenge the participants with extensive hands-on workshops where they will learn how to quickly and efficiently setup a real-time simulator, properly select and use mathematical solvers for specific simulation applications and learn about the processes behind simulation of complex systems, such as fast-switching power electronics found in today's power grids, directly on FPGA processors.

While all Real-Time Simulation training courses are currently taught at Opal-RT's headquarters, plans are in the works to expand training to major cities in North America and Europe. In addition, corporate customers can also arrange to receive training programs on-site at their facilities. By bringing the classroom to the lab, Opal-RT Training Academy instructors are able to educate students using the actual hardware that they will use to conduct product design and research.

In addition to being offered in multiple languages, including English, French and Mandarin Chinese, plans for future Academy programs will focus on industry-specific simulation applications, including power systems, renewable energy sources, electric powertrain vehicles, aerospace and electric rail & marine transportation systems.
