New Marposs Measurement Products for IMTS Incorporate Advanced Technologies

Embedded and Bluetooth® wireless technologies provide convenience and enhance reliability of gauge computer and bore plugs.

Auburn Hills, MI May 23, 2006 - Marposs Corp. will introduce its Merlin(TM) gauge computer based on embedded technology and its M1 Wave(TM) electronic bore gauge containing Bluetooth® wireless technology at IMTS 2006 in booth D-4514.

The new Merlin compact computer is designed for use on measuring applications where up to 16 characteristics can be displayed in numeric or graphical format together with basic statistical analysis. Merlin represents a new gauge computer concept for data collection from traditional or wireless measuring devices. It uses the same technologies created for today's PDA and portable electronic units and runs Microsoft® Windows® CE 5.0 software. Embedded technology with fan-less architecture and no moving parts assures the highest level of system reliability.

The new Merlin gauge computer incorporates an 8.4" color LCD touch screen display with adjustable viewing angle fixed to a bench-top base. The unit can accept up to 16 sensors via USB or RS232 inputs or Bluetooth® wireless technology. Data is retained in Flash Disk Media storage and can be transmitted via Ethernet LAN to local networks.
The new Marposs M1 Wave(TM) electronic bore gauge with Bluetooth® wireless technology provides unprecedented freedom and accuracy in a durable, easy-to-operate hand-held measuring device. Eliminating the traditional cable for electronic bore gauges overcomes obstacles such as limited length, cable entanglement and breakage, leaving the operator free to work without movement limitations in the measurement process. The electronic plug gauge is connected directly to a special handle containing the wireless transmitter incorporating Bluetooth® wireless technology and power supply using standard 'C' type batteries. At the press of a button, real time measurement values are transmitted to the receiving electronic unit for immediate display and/or storage.

The innovative Marposs wireless bore plug is the latest addition to the M1 Star line of highly advanced bore gauges for precision measuring of inside diameter, ovality and taper. The new M1 Wave bore gauge provides guaranteed 0.5 micron (20 millionths inch) repeatability over the measuring range of 3 to 300 mm diameter. Accurate, robust and reliable, the M1 Wave bore gauge is suitable for use in the harshest production environment.

At IMTS, Marposs will also show its new 3D Shape Inspector software for on-machine measurement and inspection of parts; a new Thruvar in-process measuring head for internal grinders; and a new Mida E83WA part probing system with optical transmission for machining centers and milling machines.
