Press release date: August 22, 2012

ROSSLYN, Va.-The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has announced that veteran program manager Mike Leibowitz is a recipient of the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) prestigious IEC 1906 Award.

This award commemorates the IEC's year of founding and honors IEC experts from around the world for exceptional and recent achievement-a project or other specific contribution-related to the activities of the IEC and which contributes in a significant way to advancing the work of the commission. In 2012, there are 21 award winners in the U.S.

According to the IEC, Leibowitz is being recognized for "his extraordinary technical and organizational support to TC 113 in a variety of roles within the committee, including taking minutes and drafting the plenary resolutions to ensure clear documentation of the committee work progress. He also acted as the link to the US TAG. He has demonstrated a serious and tireless work ethic in his roles and has been a huge support for standards development within the IEC."

For five of his 27 years at NEMA, Leibowitz has been secretary of the U.S. mirror committee to IEC TC 113, which focuses on nanotechnology performance and reliability assessment standards relevant to electrical and electronic products and systems. He and NEMA have been involved for five years in TC 113 at the urging of NEMA's Emerging Technology Panel.

In commenting on Leibowitz's achievement, Al Scolnik, NEMA Vice President, Technical Policy, said, "Mike has been involved in TC 113 since its formation and approached this challenge with curiosity, determination, and efficiency-typical of his work style. He has been a key to the early successes of TC 113 and NEMA is most fortunate to have a person of Mike's caliber on our technical team."

NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Its member companies manufacture a diverse set of products including power transmission and distribution equipment, lighting systems, factory automation and control systems, and medical diagnostic imaging systems. Worldwide annual sales of NEMA-scope products exceed $120 billion.
