November 28, 2012 - NEMA published Amendment 4 to NEMA TS 2-2002 (R2008) Traffic Controller Assemblies with NTCIP Requirements, supporting Flashing Yellow Arrow features. Amendment 4 standardizes control and monitoring features for FYA, a traffic signal head indication, adding these features to widely used NEMA TS 2. In government-sponsored field trials, FYA improved driver performance when yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before making a turn.

ROSSLYN, Va., —The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published Amendment 4 to NEMA TS 2-2003 (R2008) Traffic Controller Assemblies with NTCIP Requirements, supporting Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) features.

Amendment 4 standardizes the control and monitoring features for FYA, a traffic signal head indication, adding these features to the widely-used NEMA TS 2. In government-sponsored field trials, FYA improved driver performance when yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before making a turn.

Amendment 3 is also new, and modifies NEMA TS 2 provisions for contactors, including revisions to Figure 5-4 and Section 5.4.2.3, and addition of new Section 5.4.3.2.1.
