NEMA Luminaire Section Seeks Roadway and Area Lighting Planning and Use Membership for Accredited Standards Committee 136



ROSSLYN, Va., June 5, 2008 - NOTICE: To All Interested Parties in Roadway and Area Lighting Planning and Use Fields. The Luminaire Section of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association is currently seeking additional membership for its Accredited Standards Committee 136 (ASC 136).

The areas and systems covered by ASC 136 include all types of street and area lighting, including lamp types, pole construction and support, tunnel lighting, enclosed architectural luminaires, system selection guides, lighting controls, ingress protection, ancillary devices, and more. Members are expected to fulfill obligations of active participation.

General Interest and User categories members are particularly needed in order to provide proper balance among the participants. These categories are defined as:

a. User - organization (company, association, government agency, individual) that uses equipment included in the scope of a standard.

b. General interest - organization or individual that has an interest in the use of equipment included in the scope of a standard, but neither produces nor uses directly.

A request for membership on the consensus body shall be addressed to the Secretariat and shall include the applicant's direct and material interest in the ASC's work, qualifications, and willingness to participate actively. In addition, if the applicant is an organization, company, or government agency, it shall identify a representative (and an alternate, if desired). Requests may be forwarded to the ACS 136 Secretary Alex Boesenberg.
