NEMA Commends President's Plan for a 21st Century Electrical Grid

ROSSLYN, Va.-The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) commends the president's commitment to the development of a twenty-first century electrical grid as outlined in A Policy Framework for the 21st Century Grid: Enabling Our Secure Energy Future, which was issued by the Executive Office of the President, National Science and Technology Council yesterday at the White House.

The event brought together key industry stakeholders and government officials to discuss the opportunities and challenges of modernizing America's electrical infrastructure, and to advance the national dialogue on the grid's importance to job creation, energy security, and American competitiveness.

"The equipment and technology being developed and deployed by NEMA member companies throughout the electrical grid is integral to the success of this plan," said NEMA President and CEO Evan R. Gaddis, who attended the event. "Combined with the efforts of the White House, Congress, state regulators, utilities, and federal agencies, these products will provide Americans with a modern, efficient, reliable, and secure electricity delivery system that will benefit consumers and businesses."

NEMA was named by Congress in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 as a key partner in interoperability standards and protocols for deploying Smart Grid technologies.
