NEMA Applauds Signing of U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement


ROSSLYN, Va., January 19, 2006--The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) applauds today's signing of the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement and calls on Congress to ratify it as soon as possible. Upon entry into force, the agreement will feature tariff elimination, most of it immediate, for NEMA member products exported to the Sultanate.

"Our industry welcomes free trade agreement with Oman. It will serve to expand the benefits of trade liberalization to all parties," said NEMA President Evan Gaddis. "Although Oman is not a large market, it as an important gateway to the Gulf region. The implementation of this FTA will mark an important step in the advancement of the administration's Middle East free trade initiative. We urge a speedy ratification."

NEMA is the leading trade association in the United States representing the interests of electroindustry manufacturers. Founded in 1926 and headquartered near Washington, D.C., its approximately 430 member companies manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity. Domestic shipments of electrical products within the NEMA scope exceed $100 billion.
