NEMA Announces Release of Spanish-Translated Technical Documents, Website

ROSSLYN, Va.—In an effort to improve the understanding of safe and reliable electrical systems and components in Latin American countries, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has translated into Spanish several NEMA electrical standards and other technical documents, which are now available on the association’s Spanish standards webpage, Normas en Español.

Translated documents currently available include a presentation on tamper-resistant receptacles, as well as the following instructional guides:

General Instructions for Installation, Operation and Maintenance Proper Lighting and Control Panels Up to 600 V Nominal or Less

General Instructions for Handling, Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Busway Up to 600 V Nominal or Less

General Instructions for Handling, Installation, Operation and Maintenance Proper Distribution Boards Up Dead Front 600 V Nominal or Less

According to Gene Eckhart, NEMA senior director for international operations, publication of these and future documents supports NEMA’s Latin America Initiative, an ongoing effort funded by NEMA product sections that works to ensure the formal adoption of installation codes and product standards and associated verification activities that are fundamental to safe, efficient, and reliable electrical systems.

“This effort directly supports the hands-on work NEMA has been doing throughout Latin America for the past six years to support efforts our key trading partners are making to improve electrical safety and efficiency by the use of world-class standards,” he said.

These resources are complementary to the goals of the recently announced partnership between the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the ANSI-USAID Standards Alliance. The Alliance will partner with developing nations in a variety of regions, including Latin America, to conduct capacity building and other engagement specifically related to implementation of the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement and best practices for standards development and regulation.

NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
