ND SatCom Controller Portfolio Extension for Improved Usability and Reliability

Friedrichshafen, September 9, 2008 - ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company, introduces at IBC 2008 in Amsterdam a new Antenna Control Unit (ACU) generation.

The ACU 5010 for SkyRAY Light is exhibited at ND SatCom's outdoor booth OE320 from September 12-16, 2008.

The new ACU generation contains three major components for ND SatCom's system solutions: for fixed ground stations, mobile uplinks based on the company's SkyRAY Compact / MAS antenna subsystems and SkyRAY Light systems for IP-based contribution. All functionalities of ND SatCom's Antenna Pointing System (APS) are integrated into the 2RU ACU components. Johann Pohany, CTO of ND SatCom, explains that an additional PC or laptop is no longer needed to control and operate antenna systems: "This is a real one-button-operation for an auto-pointing antenna system such as SkyRAY Compact or SkyRAY Light. The operator, for example a news reporter, needs minimal technical training. A fully graphical and intuitive color display supports the usability of the antenna controllers. The benefit for the user is that our new ACU generation provides easy operation and reliable antenna control, and - if needed - each ACU can be controlled from remote by a web browser."

As ND SatCom's core components for customer networks and applications are developed and manufactured inhouse, they are precisely tailored to the company's satcom solutions. With its newly launched broadcast and VSAT component RCU 5000 (Redundancy Control Unit) and ACU generation, ND SatCom has made a substantial effort to satisfy current customer demands for more availability and automation as well as higher system efficiency and cost savings.
